Project Description
“Baby as a Second Language” is a children’s book that communicates on two different levels, one is an illustrated story that could be read to a child for their enjoyment, but more importantly a book that can communicate important messages to adults about the challenges a family faces after the life-changing birth of a child.

Challenge
The period after a new baby is born is the most challenging time in even a happy couple’s relationship. In particular many women suffer from postpartum depression or anxiety and often do not seek help because of the strong stigma associated with the condition.
Solution
This children’s book–which isn’t necessarily for children–tells a visual story of the changes that occur when a baby first joins the family and offers helpful solutions for common problems like a lack of sleep or inequality in sharing of the household chores.
