Project Description
Filed Under:Community

After researching the Port Richmond neighborhood, the SVA students were able to pinpoint the best area to commit their creative energy – the business district. The team developed and executed a real-world project designed to “revive” the main business corridor. This project was titled ¡Revive! Port Richmond tienda por tienda (store by store) because of the reinvigorating nature of the project, but also because the concept was easily understood in both English and Spanish. ¡Revive! is about using inexpensive materials and easy steps to create a more inviting shopping environment!

Year: 2011
Challenge:

How does a small town attract new business? The team had to think critically about all the barriers potential shoppers face. After doing some field research, the team learned that simple steps like reducing window clutter, could help new shoppers feel more comfortable exploring a new shop.

Solution:

The main steps we promoted include: sweep the sidewalk, cleaning windows and awnings, paint walls and window frames and reduce clutter on and around windows.
