In the past few years, there has been an unprecedented surge of interest in the field of design for social impact, or as it has become known – social design.

Creative professionals are looking for ways in which to incorporate more meaningful social change work into their practices. Colleges and universities across the country are responding to student demand that social issues be incorporated into the design curriculum and recent graduates are looking for work in the field.

But, where are the jobs? How do you identify and market yourself as a “social designer” and identify potential opportunities?

This event addressed these questions on March 1, 2012 at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. From social innovation and entrepreneurship to in-house and client based service design, a panel of professionals working in the field (outlined below) identified areas in which designers have had success. The panel explored how designers can create opportunities for themselves to expand into this area of work.
